Fire extinguished swiftly at Malvern SAPS

Constable Lana Oosthuizen was on duty on Monday night when she noticed the bamboo trees outside the station were on fire.

THE quick response from Sgt Lana Oosthuizen and Metro Fire helped prevent a disaster at Malvern SAPS last night.

According Warrant Officer Radhika Marimuthu, communications officer for Malvern SAPS, Sgt Oosthuizen was on duty on Monday night when she noticed the bamboo trees outside the station were on fire.

“The Station Commander Lt-Col Valarine Reddy and Metro Fire were informed. Sgt Oosthuizen valiantly fought the flames using the emergency fire hose,” added W/O Marimuthu.

Cst Lana Oosthuizen inspects the area that was affected by the blaze.

According  W/O Marimuthu, Metro Fire Chief, Station Commander Rajen Arunchellum and his team arrived on the scene and took over, quelling the flames that enveloped the back of the station right down to the lecture hall.

The cause of the fire was unknown.

“The Station Commander of SAPS Malvern Lt-Col Valarine Reddy praised Cst Oosthuizen for her swift efforts. She also commended Capt Arunchellum and his team for their quick response in coming out to the station to put the fire out,” said W/O Marimuthu.
