Elderly woman slips on Shongweni mountain

The rescue officer had to hike about 800 metres up the mountain with a specialised rescue stretcher and medical equipment.

PARAMEDICS and the rescue unit were called to a mountain in Shongweni yesterday afternoon after a woman slipped on a path and injured her ankle.

Netcare 911 media liaison officer Chris Botha said a group of people were going up the mountain to pray when an elderly woman slipped and fell on the rugged pathway.

“The rescue officer arrived at the scene and had to hike about 800 metres up the mountain with a specialised rescue stretcher and medical equipment.

“The woman was secured on a stretcher and then carried down the mountain,” said Botha.

She was then taken to hospital.
