WATCH: Pinetown learners take a stand for women and children
The learners are hoping their demonstration will help create more awareness on the plight of women and children in this country.
ARMED with placards and posters, school leaders and the RCL body at Pinetown Girls’ High School embarked on a silent protest on Josiah Gumede Road during their lunch break earlier today [Friday, 2 June], to create awareness of violence against women and children.
Lungelo Ntuli, the school’s head girl, said: “Being an all-girl school, we are against this kind of behaviour. We choose this particular day to demonstrate our concern following the increase in cases of violence against women and children in our country over the past two weeks,” said Ntuli.
The school’s silent protest follows the numerous cases of women and children who were abducted and killed recently.

The news of these incidents in Johannesburg and Cape Town went viral on social media causing an outburst from residents nationwide including women activists and support groups.
The Pinetown Girls’ High School leaders, Nonkosi Njapha (deputy head girl of FET), Lungile Nzama (RCL chairperson), Lungelo Ntuli (head girl) and Fundiswa Khumalo (deputy head girl GET) urged the community to support initiatives and campaigns for No Violence Against Women.
