Courtney pedals up a storm

Thomas More College's SPAR Star of the Month - May 2017.

COURTNEY Smith, a Grade 11 learner at Thomas More College is its SPAR Star of the Month.

Courtney has been selected to represent South Africa at the Junior Worlds Track Cycling Championships in Montichiari in Italy in August.

She started entering cycling races from the age of seven and participated in cross county mountain bike racing (XCO) and marathon races.

Courtney has won provincial titles and has earned her KZN colours on six occasions. She has also participated in Duathlon racing and received her KZN colours.

Courtney is part of Concept Cyclery Waterfall race team.

She was invited to try out track cycling about a year and a half ago and found she really enjoyed it and is now a member of the Future Stars Sports Academy (FSSA).

Courtney has had great success on the track, and was chosen to represent South Africa at the African Continental Champs in March this year and walked away with seven gold and one silver medal.

In April, the South African Track champs were held in Cape Town and Courtney was awarded with six South African champ titles and two silver medals.

She also broke the South African record for the Junior Woman’s Team sprint with racing her partner, Jessica Brown.
