A JOURNEY that started in 1994 has gained Escombe resident, Malcolm Greyling unforgettable memories about hardship, love and family.

The 58-year-old Fields Hill Water’s runner will take on the up run race starts that starts at 5.30am outside Durban City Hall and hopefully finish it within 12 hours at the Scottsville Racecourse.

Malcolm started running mainly because he enjoyed it, it keeps him healthy and it teaches you discipline.

In the year 2000 he finished position 4722 with about 16 000 runners behind him when he reached the finish line.

His sons Shane and Dylan have ran with him but they all unfortunately didn’t finish after experiencing severe cramping.

“I have done a few runs with his sons, including the Mandela race in 2016, one of my hardest races to finish,” he proudly stated.

He believes the Mandela race had to be hard because Madiba himself lived a hard life.

What’s Malcolm’s ultimate goal at this years race you may ask, he aims to finish nut not only finish but cross the finish line with his son Shane.

“Goodluck to all the other runners, to the young ones, you can all do it if you try and always remember the golden rule and always have on the right shoes,” he said.
