Tyra twirls her way to the top

Forest View Primary School's SPAR Star of the Month - April 2017.

TYRA Zimmerman is a Grade 4 learner at Forest View Primary School and is its SPAR Star of the Month.

The nine-year-old is an enthusiastic learner and is also committed to equestrian vaulting and acrobatics.

Equestrian vaulting can be described as gymnastics and dance on horseback.

She recently competed at the KZN vaulting championship and was placed third overall.

She also competed as an individual in D-Grade at the canter and was awarded first place overall.

In the pairs on the barrel she was awarded second overall.

Tyra started vaulting at the age of four and took up the art of acrobatics since she was two years old.

It was natural progression for her acrobatic skills in vaulting. Her horse’s name is Duchess.

Tyra is a delight in the classroom, as she is conscientious with her school work and she continuously adds value in classroom discussions.

Her class teacher, Fiona Delport’s first response when asked about Tyra was, “That child is so awesome.”

She contributes on the sportsfield and her all-time favourite school sports are netball and swimming.

She is also in the school choir and loves to perform.

The school’s principal, Shayleen Shum, asked the learners at a recent assembly why they thought their school could be likened to a ship and its crew.

Tyra said for her, “school was like a ship as we all have individual jobs to do our best in, but together we work as a team to go in the same direction.”
