WE have lived in Mariannhill Park for the past 17 years and from about September/October 2016 residents have been experiencing a foul odour coming from the Mariannhill Landfill site.
The stench is so unbearable sometimes bringing an excessive amount of flies into our home which we’ve never experienced before.
This matter is very serious yet complaints to the municipality have not elicited any response.
A complaint was lodged with the ward councilor who met with the manager at the site to establish what was causing the problem.
It appears that since the Springfield Park site closed last year, waste coming from that zone is now also being brought for dumping to the Mariannhill Landfill site.
The concern is that very soon capacity at the site will be depleted.
To date residents have not been informed on how or when the problem will be resolved.
I am appealing to DSW to please investigate the matter and advise the residents of Mariannhill Park, Caversham Glen and surrounding areas of what strategy they have adopted (if any) to alleviate the toxic fumes contaminating the air and filtering into our area.
