Hijacking cases increase in isolated areas

Police warns motorists of parking in isolated areas, especially at night.

POLICE have issued a warning to motorists about the dangers of parking their vehicles in isolated areas while chatting to their friend or partners.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, said Pinetown police have attended incidents where hijackings have taken place while drivers are chatting to their partners in isolated areas at night.

“We appeal to motorists to park in locations that are safe and not obscured by bushes or buildings where criminals might lurk. Drivers are urged to be vigilant at all times and avoid isolated places at night. Any suspicious-looking people or vehicles can be reported to the police so that they can be searched,” he said.

Manqele said that they do not have any specific areas which have been identified as hotspots.
