Ribbon up and say no to child abuse

Childline KZN urges Highway residents to don white ribbons in the fight against child abuse.

CHILDLINE KZN turned public attention to the rights of children, society’s most vulnerable, for Human Rights Day on 21 March.

The organisation launched its white ribbon campaign aimed to raise awareness of the alarming incidents of child abuse in KwaZulu-Natal.

Wearing a white ribbon, which symbolises the protection of innocence and purity of children, creates solidarity against child abuse.

“This campaign focuses primarily on generating an increased awareness of the negative impact of violence and abuse of children and aims to encourage individuals, organisations and businesses to take steps to help stop this growing problem,” said Adeshini Naicker, Childline KZN operations manager.

Childline KZN’s outreach team distributed white ribbons to shoppers at Westwood Mall to actively meet the people.

“We are grateful for the wonderful support that has been received in response to the white ribbon campaign. Childline KZN reinforces that the fight against child abuse is a shared responsibility that requires every person to take action,” she said.
