Audition now for Westville production

Take part in the stellar show, Get on the Greyvy Steyn, in April this year.

THE Westville Theatre Club is resurrecting its One Act Play festival in KwaZulu-Natal in 2018 and to set the scene will host the mini festival, Get on the Greyvy Steyn, in April this year.

“Have you always wanted to do some acting on stage but weren’t sure that you could pull it off? Either because you do not have enough time to rehearse for a full three-act play or you are not sure that you can remember all the lines, or too tall, too short, can’t sing or can’t dance? Then this is for you,” said the festival’s organiser, Mervin Lowe.

To set the scene and whet your appetite, the Westville Theatre Club will put on a mini-festival, Get on the Greyvy Steyn, consisting of three plays written by Hennie Greyvenstein.

“As each act is only between 25 and 35 minutes long, and usually does not require singing or dancing, the one-act plays are essentially for all experienced and inexperienced actors and actresses, understudies, as well as backstage, lighting and sound operators and is also your chance to direct or co-direct,” said Mervin.

Audition scripts of the plays will be available on the day, after each director has explained their play to the prospective actors. After this, there will be a 30-minute read through to familiarise yourself with the characters and then audition for the role you see yourself in. “The directors may then ask you to audition for any other role as well. Should there be an abundance of actors it is also feasible that one or more of the plays may be performed by different casts. Some actors may be chosen to be in more than one play,” said Mervin.

Auditions will be held at the Westville Theatre Club on Sunday, 19 February from 2pm, Monday, 20 February at 7pm and Thursday, 23 February at 7pm.Theperformance nights are on 20 to 22 April and 27 to 29 April this year.

Anyone wishing to pursue the option of directing a one-act, contact Mervin on 083 375 6661.
