New wheels for White House residents

A generous donation of wheelchairs has given the residents at the White House NPO a new sense of freedom.

THE patients at The White House Community Centre in the Valley of 1 000 Hills were gifted with wheelchairs by the Rotary Club of Durban.

The Rotary Club found out the needs of the organisation through one of its nearby long-time supporters, the Rob Roy Lifestyle Retirement Village. “On behalf of all the residents and carers at The White House Community Care Centre, and in particular the very grateful residents who received the wheelchairs, we would like to thank Durban Rotary Club.

“The wheelchairs will definitely change the lives of those who received them. Rotary does an amazing job for the community, and they are the life line to many organisations. Thank you for supporting our little haven out of all the requests you receive,” said Adele Walters of the Centre.

Even with the most welcome donation, the NPO is still in need of essential items. “A visiting doctor from the UK has recommend a list of medications and a few essential first aid kit materials that should be available at all times,” said Adele.

The Centre is in need of:

– Paracetamol 500mg tablets (2×pots of 100 tablets).

– Lactulose liquid (500ml) or senna tablets (30 tablets)

– Loperamide (30 tablets)

– Gaviscon or peptac liquid (500ml)

– Buscopan tablets (30 tablets).

– Antihistamine (Allergex).

– Clotrimazole cream (large tube).

– Aqueous cream or other moisturiser (500ml x3).

– Deep heat or similar muscle relaxant.

– Gauze.

– Crepe bandages and scissors.

– Antiseptic cream.

– Burn dressing.

– Plasters.

It is also in need of tinned foods, sugar, cooking oil, mielie-meal, rice, samp, beans, peanut butter, tea as well as long-life milk. Other essentials include Dettol, cleaning detergents and toilet paper.
