Library staff need training

A New Germany resident believes staff should be trained and possess a vast knowledge of books.

CAN anyone perhaps tell me what the criteria is for someone to be employed at a library is and does every library have to have one qualified librarian, which it should.

Those who work at the New Germany Library I find to have no “library sus” or knowledge about books in the slightest.

The one person I dealt with recently couldn’t spell, hadn’t heard of the author I was looking for (a common author) and didn’t know where the first letter of the author’s name was on the keyboard.

I had to walk around to her “station” and show her where the “P” was – the first letter of the author’s name.

The cherry on top was that she barely knew how to type.

Pressed the “P” after I showed her where it was, and then she went down closer to the keyboard to find the next letter – an “H” – after I had spelt it for her three times.

The former library manager, Angela, an extremely knowledgeable and helpful woman, has left for pastures at another library unfortunately, and I was told that for the moment she will not be replaced.

Oh, woe is me
