Water woes worsen as Pinetown reservoirs runs dry
The eThekwnini Municipality has responded to why residents across the Pinetown area have been without water.
RESIDENTS across the Pinetown area have been left high and dry due to a feeder reservoir running empty. According to eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa. the water level at Albert falls Dam has dropped to 26.1 per cent.
The Department of Water and Sanitation imposed restrictions to the greater Ugeni River system by 15 per cent. Mthethwa noted that this had not been achieved.
The eThekwini Municipality asked for the relaxation of the restrictions during the festive season to cater for the increased demand due to an influx of holidaymakers.
“The demand exceeded the supply during this time, causing a strain on the water network system,” said Mthethwa.
The net effect resulted in the Mt Moriah Reservoir running dry after feeding 16 reservoirs downstream, she explained.
