River rehabilitation project gears up for new year

The Aller River Pilot Project has a large number of activities planned for the New Year.

THE Aller River Pilot Project will step up activity this January once everyone is back from the holiday break.

There are a large number of activities planned including clean-ups, monitoring walks, training sessions, community interactions, street theatre events, a trail run and more.

The Aller River Pilot Project is an eThekwini Conservancies project funded by eThekwini Municipality which is attempting to address the problem of poor river health in the rivers.

“The project is focusing on the Aller River as a pilot project to test the methodologies which can then hopefully be applied on other rivers.

“The project includes the appointment of Eco-champs who monitor and report on the condition of the river. The Eco-champs have been in intensive training since October and in December were involved in clean-up campaigns in the in Ndunduma Area 9 in Clermont,” said Paolo Candotti, member of the eThekwini Conservancies Forum.
