Alleged killer appears in Pinetown court

One of the four men accused of the murder of Faizel Iqbal appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court yesterday.

ONE of the men who is alleged to be involved in the murder of a Pinetown man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The 29-year-old is believed to be one of the four armed gang members who stormed a home in Caversham Road and shot and killed Faizel Iqbal. The man was charged with murder and house robbery.

On 2 June 2015, at about 7pm the four gunmen held up Faizel Iqbal (38), his sister and two children. The family was ordered to lie down on the floor while the gunmen ransacked the house. “Household items including cell phones and a shotgun were taken by the men,” said Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, KZN spokesman for the SAPS.

Iqbal was armed with a pistol and shot and killed one of the gunmen before the other four robbers returned fire and killed him. Three men fled the scene in their getaway vehicle which was parked outside the home. “Investigations led to the arrest of the first man last year, whose case is being held at the Durban High Court. The Pinetown Trio Task Team arrested the second man on Monday, 21 November 2016 in Ntuzuma and a third man was arrested at KwaMashu on Saturday, 23 December 2016,” said Mbhele.

KwaZulu-Natal’s acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, said, “We appreciate the good work displayed by the Pinetown Trio Task Team as it resulted in the arrest of the robbers. Our detectives will make sure that they are prosecuted and receive a sentence they deserve,” said
