Foundation creates hope for littlies

Fifty children were treated to an exciting play and a pizza feast and were each given wonderful Christmas hampers thanks to the Robin Hood Foundation and its supporters.

THE Robin Hood Foundation hosted a fun-filled Hope Breakfast for 50 orphaned and vulnerable children from disadvantaged communities in the Durban area.

Kim Griffith Jones, the coordinator of RHF said, “The aim of this project we’ve been running for the past five years is to inspire hope in the lives of the young children, aged three to 17, who have suffered devastating losses in their young lives. Most of them have lost parents and are now cared for by an older sibling, aunt, neighbour or their ageing gogo. We take them out of their dire circumstances for a while, let them play, feel the love from our volunteers and just be children.

“For these children, almost every day is a struggle so imagine their joy when they received a brand new school uniform and stationery to start off their new term at school. At each project we’ve hosted in the past, we’ve seen ourselves what these uniforms mean to the children once they receive them, all play halts, they do not want to put them down. For them, it is another reason to go to school, proudly dressed in their new uniforms.”

On 17 December, 50 orphaned and vulnerable children, as highlighted by the Christian Social Services, were treated to the matinee show of The Wonder Years and a fantastic lunch. Each child went home with two brand new school uniforms, toiletries, stationery, towels, a blanket, a bag filled with non-perishable foods, a food bucket with more essentials and their own special Christmas present, donated by the cast of the show and Emerge Mobile. “Thanks to the cast from Vogue Entertainment for donating all the proceeds of their show, The Wonder Years, Beach and Bush, Price Waterhouse Cooper, The Entrepreneurs Organisation Durban, Dischem, Emerge Mobile, Debonairs and Buckman Laboratories,” said Kim.

Cindy Norcott, the chairman and founder of The Robin Hood Foundation said, “We are incredibly grateful for all the support for this project. What a way to end an amazing 2016 in which we have hosted more than 85 community projects and reached more than 20 000 people. Thanks for the wonderful community support we receive. This hope project was the highlight of my year. This is what Christmas is all about!”
