Missing man rescued after tireless search

The man was found about a kilometre down a ravine.

A GROUP of volunteers who were assisting the South African Community Crime Watch (upper Highway area) managed to find a man who went missing last Monday.

According to reports, Waterfall resident, Justin Williamson, 32, described as a nature lover, was reported missing by his family last Monday after he left home to catalogue and take pictures of plants in the area.

The missing person’s report led to a frantic three-day search by community organisation, SA Community Crime Watch. Williamson was found in the Msunduzi area, near Cato Ridge, on Thursday after a tireless search.

Chitra Bodasing Harduth, ER24 spokesperson said the man was located by community members about a kilometre down a ravine.

“Paramedics were contacted. SAPS Search and Rescue, Fire Department personnel and SAPS K9 Search and Rescue were on scene as well as volunteers. The man was found with a fractured right leg. He was treated and with the assistance of the community, was carried out of the area,” said Chitra.

He was transported to hospital and the exact details surrounding the incident are unknown. Chitra thanked all the volunteers and emergency personnel who worked together to find the man.

On the SA Crime Watch Facebook page, they posted that a ground search was conducted after Williamson’s vehicle was recovered on a road in KwaXimba.

“He was found with a broken ankle and was unable to get out of the valley. He was placed on a board and had to be carried out. The heat was extreme and made the rescue very difficult. A huge thank you to everyone who assisted. I can proudly say I worked with an awesome team and can now say case closed,” the post read.
