Picture perfect paintings bring joy

THE children at Khulakahle Creche and Pre-School were delighted with the beautiful dancing sheep painting done by international artist, Cassy Healey.
The school is a community-based (CBO), non-profit organisation and the mural was designed by the early childhood development (ECD) expert and artist, Cassy, to help the staff teach counting and colour mixing. “With 50 per cent of ECD centres in KZN battling for equipment and 42 per cent needing urgent maintenance, painting educational murals like this one, is really a brilliant solution,” said Nokuthula Zulu, the president of the South African Congress for early childhood development, who also owns the pre-school centre.
Cassy, who is clearly passionate about her work, said, “Nothing beats seeing the joy on children’s faces when they see the pictures. I just love it.”
She runs her own business and paints at least one free mural for every one that she is paid for. “This year, I’ve mainly painted hospitals and clinics, but pre-schools are my favourite because the children and staff are always so excited,” she explained. “There are more than 3167 ECD centres in KwaZulu-Natal and my dream is to paint them all!”
