EDITOR – We hear and read so much about the consternation caused by this madness spreading from the new billing system. Is there no compromise? I know of a pensioner, scraping by on the state pension, who has received a bill far in excess of her total income. Any assistance in this situation was met with the statement that she must pay the full amount, and would be credited in due course. Pay with what? When a person does not have such financial resources, what is the solution – the electricity will be cut if payment is not forthcoming. A re-connection fee is required if and when the bill is paid. How long will it take until this disgraceful mess is sorted out? Is there anything that can be done to end the hardship this new system is causing?
