Turn Facebook likes into hearty meals

Like RCL Foods' CSI Facebook page and one meal will be donated to a person in need on World Food Day.

RCL FOODS pledged to provide more food to more people, more often and vowed to donate a meal to a needy person on World Food Day on 16 October for every like its CSI Facebook page receives.

The company launched the ambitious Facebook campaign to encourage all South Africans to work towards providing a meal to a hungry South African. “We want to make a big difference to those in need on 16 October,” said Warren Farrer, Group CSI executive. “We are planning to feed impoverished people on this day by providing them with a nutritious meal consisting of two pieces of chicken, coleslaw with mayonnaise and a bread roll. Every like on our CSI Facebook page, equals a meal pledged.”

World Food Day, first established in 1979, is a global campaign against hunger and on 16 October each year, millions of people around the world work to eradicate hunger.

According to the campaign’s website www.worldfooddayusa.org, out of the world’s total population of 805 million people, one in nine people live with chronic hunger. “The costs of hunger and malnutrition fall heavily on the most vulnerable – 60 per cent of the hungry in the world are women, almost five million children under the age of five die of malnutrition-related causes every year and four out of every 10 children in poor countries are malnourished.” The meals donated will be personalised with the pledger’s name.
