I hope that you are proud of yourself

Letter to the Editor - week ending 16 September 2016.

EDITOR – To the woman who went to shop at the Checkers in Hillcrest on Tuesday, 6 September, I hope that you read this.

You went into the store and did your shopping and when you got to the till you asked the teller how the coupons work. She tried to explain it but you didn’t understand her. You then turned to my son who had just packed your groceries and he also tried to explain to the best of his ability, but still you didn’t understand.

You were now quite angry and said to my son “you are an idiot” and asked to see the manager. My son showed you to the manager’s office. After you were done seeing the manager, you went to my son and said “you know nothing”. I just want to tell you something. My son has been through many difficult challenges in his life and was told he has ADHD early in his life, but he never gave up trying to be someone and get somewhere in life.

I hope you felt so much better after you said this to him in front of his colleagues. I think they looked at you in disgust, rather than at him. Remember he is just one of many that are there to help you out and would like some respect. You may see my son as just another till packer, but to me he is my son and a gift from God and I am extremely proud of him. He isn’t out begging and stealing, He is only trying to earn a living.
