Kearsney slams Glenwood 79-20 in basketball

Kearsney beat Glenwood 79-20 in basketball, but lost 3-12 to Glenwood in waterpolo. The cricket match was rained out.

KEARSNEY College’s 1st basketball team beat Glenwood 1st team, 79-20 at the weekend.

The summer sports season started this weekend with Kearsney hosting Glenwood. The game started well for Kearsney who showed good defense and did not allow Glenwood into the game. The hosts were able to score freely without being troubled by Glenwood’s defense. As a contest, the game was over by half-time with Kearsney in a commanding 36-11 lead.

The Glenwood boys continued to fight in the second half, but Kearsney did not allow them back into the game and continued to pile on the points. The team was ably led by new captain Kuhlekonke Bophela who controlled the team on the offensive and defensive end. Kearsney’s big man Thomas Westermeyer was unstoppable, scoring a game high of 21 points and ignited the crowd with a huge dunk early in the third quarter.

Kearsney ran out easy 79-20 victors. It was evident that the pre-season work put in by the Kearsney players helped them maintain a high standard of play throughout the game.

Kearsney won all their A games against Glenwood; with the U16As winning 37-11, U15A 49-20 and U14A 39-12.

In waterpolo news, Kearsney 1st team lost to Glenwood 1st 12-3.

Unfortunately, the first cricket game of the season between Kearsney and Glenwood, scheduled to be played in Botha’s Hill, was washed out due to the rain.

Finally, Kearsney’s Dylan Richardson was selected for the KZN U17 Rugby 7s squad.
