Hirsch’s honours local heroine

One of the house mothers at iKhethelo Children's Village in the Valley of 1 000 Hills was recognised with an award for the tireless work she does raising children.

DORIS Majozi, a house mother at iKhethelo Children’s Village in the Valley of 1 000 Hills, was ecstatic when she received the Hirsch’s hero award.

Ruth Mthembu, the associate development director at iKhethelo Children’s Village, said that Doris, also known as Mama D, is the true definition of a woman and deserves a lot of appreciation. “She has worked at iKethelo for more than 15 years and she has raised many children. She works so quietly, yet so powerfully. There is a famous phrase that states, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ but Doris has raised a village herself,” said Ruth.

For Women’s month, Hirsch’s chose a heroine in the community that works hard and makes a difference to the community. Doris received a R500 Hirsch’s voucher, a nail voucher from Waterfall Nail and Beauty and a cut and blow wave from Ash Blonde Salon.

“The community has her to thank for raising many children, some of whom are now working, studying or starting their own families,” said Ruth.

Doris said that she was beyond happy to have received the award.
