Crime spikes in Pinetown intersections

Police urge motorists to drive with care in the Pinetown CBD.

MOTORISTS are urged once again by police to ensure they keep their windows closed especially when approaching intersections in the Pinetown CBD.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cpt Bongumusa Manqele, said many cases of robberies have been reported where motorists are robbed by criminals because they take advantage of open windows.

“Pinetown is a busy place and is surrounded by a big industrial area where people from all the provinces come to deliver and collect goods for their businesses.

“Criminals are also taking advantage of the road construction that is taking place in the Pinetown CBD,” said Manqele.

The items that are usually taken are cellphones, jewelry and money.

The problematic streets included Josiah Gumede (Old Main) Road from Anderson Street up to Crompton Street, Chancery Lane, Glenugie Road and also Kings Road.
