AIDS Conference delegates visit Malvern Home

The youth got to learn about the UN 90-90-90 initiative through two exciting events – a drama project and an arts project called the Butterfly Project.

WITH all the hype and excitement around Durban’s hosting of the 2016 International AIDS Conference, the Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre was privileged to be selected as one of the tours for the delegates to visit during their stay in the country.

“This was a fantastic opportunity to share our Child Development and HIV-Aids programmes with various organisations in the USA, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Tanzania, Thailand, Botswana and the Philippines. We were also blessed to benefit from hearing about their projects and are thrilled to have made new friends from around the world that we will be staying in contact with,” said PR and fundraising manager Lee Jarrett.

In addition, 30 children from the Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre, along with other NPO’s in the province, were invited to be a part of a major arts and health education initiative as part of the AIDS 2016 Conference. They got to learn about the UN 90-90-90 initiative through two exciting events – a drama project and an arts project called the Butterfly Project. Umcebo Design helped the youngsters create and decorate hundreds of butterflies from recycled materials for a sculpture that hung as a visual symbol of an AIDS-free generation in the atrium at the Denis Hurley Centre.
