Two-litre milk bottles come in handy

Letter to the Editor - week ending 8 July 2016.

EDITOR – For about 10 years I have been saving water by urinating into 2lt milk bottles. This will only work for males.

Every time a urinal or cistern flushes that is about 10lt of water that is used. A man will normally urinate approximately 2lt of urine per day, more on a cold day. The amount of water saved is quite high using this method.

There is another advantage for those with gardens, the urine breaks down into nitrogen among other things which is good for plants and it still contains a lot of water, so it helps keep the plants nourished and no flushing. Yes, the urine will stink for an hour or so, but it doesn’t continue and you can spread the urine around various parts of the garden. For those living in flats, it will mean only flushing once a day.

For those serious about saving water at this time, how about doing your bit and turning your waste into something profitable?
