VIDEO: Mireesha shares some tree planting-knowledge with pupils

Mireesha Narsai is a regional semi-finalist for Miss Earth South Africa 2016 and she wants to uplift her community.

REGIONAL semi-finalist for Miss Earth South Africa 2016, Mireesha Narsai, visited Kloof Senior Primary School and along with some pupils they planted four pigeonwood trees and two bruin stinkhout trees on the school grounds.

The pupils helped with the planting of the trees and gained some knowledge from Mireesha about the earth and the importance of taking care of the environment.

The 24-year-old from Kloof is a qualified civil engineer and currently pursuing her M.Sc (Masters) in civil engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” This quote by Margaret Mead, Mireesha said, perfectly sums up her reasons for entering the Miss Earth South Africa programme.

“I want to help uplift my community and encourage others to join me in being part of the solutions to the many problems we we face in South Africa, Africa and the world,” she said.

The Miss Earth is an award winning organisation with programmes focused on developing young women.

They initiate and run several programmes for the young ladies who make the final selection into this leadership initiative from around South Africa. These programmes are socially and environmentally-based, covering environmental issues such as energy efficiency, food security, water and waste management, conservation and eco-preneurship.
