Hillary collision turns fatal

"Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find total carnage." Garrith Jamieson.

ONE person has been killed and another is fighting for his life in a hospital after a head-on collision on Sarnia Road in Hillary, Durban on Friday, 27 May just after 10pm.

Operations director, Garrith Jamieson, said paramedics found the scene in shambles. “Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find total carnage. Two vehicles had collided head-on before one rolled several times, coming to rest on its roof. One of the drivers was ejected from the vehicle and had unfortunately died before paramedics’ arrival due to the severity of his injuries,” he said.

The second driver was severely trapped and had sustained critical injuries. “Advanced life support paramedics stabilised the man in the wreckage by placing him on a manual ventilator while the Durban Fire Department used the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the man free from the wreckage,” Jamieson added. Once freed, the patient was carefully extricated before being rushed by Rescue Care to a nearby hospital. It is unclear what caused the collision. SAPS were in attendance and are investigating.
