Elderly man shot in Malvern

According to the Malvern police, the man had gotten out the car and proceeded to the house to open the door while the woman remained seated in the car.

AN elderly man is in a fight for his life in hospital after being shot on Friday, 13 May. In a statement, paramedics said the 73-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after a shooting incident in Haven Lane, Malvern on Friday evening, 13 May.

“Rescue Care Paramedics responded to a gunshot victim in Haven Lane in Malvern just before 8pm. On arrival they found that a 73-year-old male had sustained a single gunshot wound. He was in a critical condition and was stabilised by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before he was rushed through to a Durban hospital for the further care that he required,” said Operations Director, Garrith Jamieson.

According to the Malvern police, the man had alighted from the car and proceeded to the house to open the door while the woman remained seated in the car.

“The lady was then approached by two armed suspects who demanded the keys to the car. Her husband heard the noise and rushed to the vehicle. When the suspects saw him, they fired at him. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his chest . The suspects made off with the vehicle . The victim has been admitted for treatment of the gunshot wounds,” stated Corporate Communication Officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu.
