You save water by not using it

"All I had to do to obtain the same volume of water was wait a little longer."

EDITOR – Given that there is a considerable amount of water wastage across the city, including some stolen without being paid for, I must begin to question if water pressure restriction washers now being fitted will have any influence on total water use. Any success, that is, other than of course among folks who are already using water wisely anyway.

I fill a particular container holding about 1.5 litres now and again with water at one of our garden taps. Today, after the contractor had installed the water flow restriction device on our meter (no doubt at a handsome payment from council for his time), I went to fill the same container again. All I had to do to obtain the same volume of water was wait a little longer.

Am I missing something, or is this flow restriction project the grand waste of time I think it is measured against actual water saved? Water savings can only be achieved by water not being used, period.

No swimming pool top-ups, car washing, no garden watering, no running taps while shaving, brushing teeth or washing dishes and most of all no water leakage running down the street from municipal infrastructure that has not been looked after.
