Guy bags tennis titles

Winston Park Primary School has chosen Guy Vorwerk as its SPAR Star of the Month.

GUY Vorwerk, a Grade 4 pupil at Winston Park Primary School was chosen as the school’s SPAR Star of the Month, for his passion for tennis.

Guy has had an interest in tennis since he was a toddler. When he was little, his mom would often take him to the tennis courts where his dad was coaching. He was mesmerised by the game and couldn’t seem to get enough of it. Guy participated in his first U10 Nationals in Bloemfontein at the age of seven and won a few matches against the older boys.

During the recent Easter holidays, Guy participated in two tournaments, the Free State TSA (Tennis South Africa) Series and the TSA Junior Nationals. Both events were held in Bloemfontein, with players from across the country participating. He won the U10 boys singles, boys doubles and mixed doubles in the Free State TSA series and he also won the U10 mixed doubles and was a finalist in the U10 boys singles and doubles in the Junior Nationals.

“While we are proud of Guy’s tennis achievements, we are even more proud of Guy’s integrity and his positive attitude on court and towards other players,” said Gina Layzell, business manager at Winston Park Primary School.
