Anele leads the pack

John Wesley School's SPAR Star of the Month - April 2016.

THE best words to use when describing Grade 7 pupil, Anele Mgwazela, are ‘enthusiastic and level-headed’. She has a joyful enthusiasm regarding all aspects of her school life and embraces and enjoys challenges in the classroom and on the sports field. This was the reason she was chosen as John Wesley School’s SPAR Star of the Month.

The 13-year-old is an exceptional sportswoman and participates enthusiastically in a number of sporting disciplines and excels in every one. She possesses remarkable spatial awareness on the sports field, as well as tremendous speed. Her attitude is most commendable. She diligently attends practices and has a very well-developed work ethic.

Anele currently represents the first team netball, first team hockey, first team girls’ touch rugby, first team mixed touch rugby and the first team girls’ soccer team. She has represented the aforementioned teams for the second consecutive year and is currently the captain of the netball team. In addition, she participated in cross country and athletics at ward level, she is a member of the school swimming team and excels at freestyle, butterfly and backstroke, and is currently the captain of her school house.

Anele lives with her mother, older brother and extended family in Newlands West. Her brother plays soccer for the Royal Eagles and he often asks Anele to join him for his afternoon practice run, which she thoroughly enjoys. He also coaches her to help improve her soccer skills. Anele dreams of becoming a doctor one day, focusing specifically on woman’s health issues.

“Anele’s excellent temperament and exceptional sporting ability make her a great ambassador for our school and we are tremendously proud of her,” said Darron Tarr, the principal of John Wesley School.
