ONE of South Africa’s most creative, prolific and well-known international comedian, John Vlismas, will perform at two venues in the Highway area next week.
Outspoken and sometimes controversial, Vlismas is a firm favourite on the SA comedy scene and a household name to boot. He produced and headlined Have a Heart (HAH) in aid of Child Welfare Johannesburg in 2006, while in 2002, he hosted and co-produced the largest ever stand-up comedy event seen in South Africa, Laugh Out Loud, which played to 7 000 people.
Other performance highlights include being support act in Steven Wright’s South African tour, and performing for SA Tourism at the Sydney Art Museum in 2004. Vlismas also produced the South African leg of Henry Rollin’s world tours in 2007/8 and 2010.
His first performance is at the Mozambique Hillcrest lunchtime comedy show on Wednesday, 27 April at 2.30pm. He shares the stage with outstanding funny Durban locals, Carvin Goldstone and Masood B.
Tickets cost R100. R20 from each ticket goes to support the Jes Foord Foundation.
Vlismas will also perform at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof on Friday, 29 April at 9pm. This time, the 90-minute show will feature local favourites, Jem Atkins, Carvin Goldstone and Nina Hastie (from Johannesburg) alongside Vlismas. Tickets cost R100. To book, contact 031 764 7843. Enjoy a meal (not included with the show) at the restaurant before the show. Dinner is served from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The show starts at 9pm.
