Elangeni College responds to campus issues

Among the students' grievances was the issue of safety in and around the premises.

ELANGENI College has responded after students from the KwaNyuswa campus complained about the state of the college in the Highway Mail publication dated Friday, 18 March.

Among the students’ grievances was the issue of safety, as they said people walk in and out of the premises without having to produce their student cards.

The students also raised issues of not having enough computers, and that the few that they have are very slow and sometimes they crash and they lose their work. Another concern was an air-conditioner that has been leaking in one of the computer rooms and that the SRC has to share an office with the security guards.

They also raised the issue of the pending results not having been released, which the students around all the Elangeni campuses have been complaining about.

Elangeni College spokesman, Buhle Zwane, said there was a security guard posted at the gate who was responsible for controlling access.

She said the central office management always assisted with making computers available but at the moment, the supply chain department was procuring additional computers for the campus.

“The matter of the aircon was reported and recommendations to have it repaired were submitted and sent to the SCM to procure through correct processes.”

Zwane said the matter of pending results had been dealt with at a higher level.

“There is ongoing communication between the college and the Department of Higher Education and Training and the KwaNyuswa campus’ outstanding results were received and distributed to relevant students. Students with queries are encouraged to contact the exam officer.”
