Welfare Society appeals for help, offices flooded

The insurance company said they cannot repair the leaks as the fault is lack of maintenance.

PINETOWN and Highway Child and Family Welfare Society needs your assistance.

Due to recent rains, the development section entrance of the building was flooded and is in desperate need of repair. The flooded area has disrupted service delivery to the needy rural communities as staff are on leave until the repairs are complete.

According to Ellen Attwell, fundraising coordinator at the society, whenever it rains, it leaks inside the building. Ellen believes the rain water is collecting on the roof top of the building because there is no proper drainage. “Wear and tear over the years has caused cracks through the roof top and hence when it rains, the water seeps through,” said Attwell.

She added that due to the stench of wet carpets and dampness in the walls and ceilings, staff who occupy the flooded offices were forced to take leave until the leaks are repaired. Staff are expected to return to work next week, but the society have not commenced with any repairs yet. The water has also damaged many electric connections throughout the building.

“The insurance company has reviewed the problem but unfortunately they cannot assist as the fault is lack of maintenance. We don’t have the funds to repair this on our own and hence are appealing to any building contractor to please assist by sponsoring their services to help repair the roof,” said Attwell.
