KwaNyuswa students feel left out

The school is in the valley and there are cows which graze around in the roads.

THE fear of being attacked or injured at school is one of the major issues that the students from Elangeni College, KwaNyuswa campus are faced with.

The Highway Mail visited the campus, which is in the Valley of 1 000 Hills, and spoke to some of the students.

Secretary of the students’ representive committee, Simthandile Dladla, said they have asked numerous times to be provided with a proper gate as people walk in and out of the school as they please.

”The school is in the valley and there are cows which graze around in the roads,” she said.

Dladla said there was an incident where a student was almost attacked last year, but luckily the perpetrator was spotted in time.

“There are not enough computers in the school and the few that we have are very slow and sometimes we lose our work.”

The student said there is an aircon that is leaking in one of the computer rooms and that the SRC has to share an office with the security guards. “Even that room, which is supposed to be our office, has holes and it leaking.”

The students feel that they are not cared for because they are in the valley.

“There is building material all over the premises and electric wires hanging, students can trip over and injure themselves,” said another SRC member, Ndumiso Danisa.

“We once had to study for four weeks without a lecture and our library is very disorganised,” he said.

The students also raised the issue of the pending results which students from Elangeni College have been complaining about throughout the years.

They added that they are tired of striking every time there are grievances, the management should sort out the issues.

“Every year we have to protest in order to be heard, things need to change because the students experience the same problems every year,” said Dladla.
