The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness about street robberies that are occurring in the CBD.

THE Pinetown Corporate Communication department, the Social Crime Prevention Unit and the Pinetown Community Police Forum, in conjunction with Safer Cities, Santaco, Ethembeni Road Safety, EPWP and volunteers from the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, conducted a crime awareness campaign at Pinetown taxi rank recently.

The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness about street robberies that are occurring in the CBD. The Pinetown SAPS communications officer said the problematic areas are the intersections of Josiah Gumede and Crompton Street, Josiah Gumede and Glenugie and Josiah Gumede and Anderson Street.

Pedestrians as well as motorists are the victims of these robberies.

Manqele said that motorists should not open windows, especially when approaching intersections in the Pinetown CBD.
