4 injured in 3 accidents

Local authorities are urging motorists to be extra vigilant on the roads.

FOUR people were injured in three separate accidents on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

In one of the accident, a man was injured after the taxi he was driving overturned on the M13 Field’s Hill.

ER24 spokesman, Russell Meiring said paramedics found a taxi lying on its side on the side of the road. “It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the barrier and overturn. Paramedics assessed the driver and found that he had sustained moderate injuries,” he said.

He was treated at the scene and transported to St Mary’s Hospital.

In another incident, two were injured on Tuesday evening after two vehicles collided in St John’s Avenue in Pinetown. Meiring said paramedics found the road completely blocked by traffic.

“Two occupants from one of the cars sustained moderate injuries. The occupants from the second vehicle escaped without injury. The two patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to RK Khan Hospital,” he said.

In a separate incident, a man was left critically injured on Tuesday evening after a taxi and delivery van collided on the M5 in New Germany. Paramedics found both vehicles in the centre median of the road.

“The front of the taxi was found to be completely ripped open, with the door barely hanging on. The front passenger was found lying trapped inside the vehicle in a critical condition.

“Paramedics extricated and assessed the patient, finding that he had sustained severe injuries to his left leg. The patient was treated and provided with advanced life support intervention and transported to RK Khan Hospital.”
