Heavy rains cause havoc around Durban

Some of the shops at the Pavilion Shopping Centre were also flooded during last night's heavy rains.

INCIDENTS of flooding have been reported around Durban after last night’s heavy rains.

In one incident, a man (49) died after he was crushed by a retaining wall that collapsed at his house in Westville.

According to reports, paramedics found the man lying at the entrance of his home and was declared dead on scene. His wife was seriously injured.

The heavy downpour also flooded the lower cinema level of Pavilion Shopping Centre. Pictures and videos of the floods have been widely circulated on social media platforms.

The videos shows the staff in some shops and restaurants mopping up floors flooded by the rain, which came in through the roof.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
