Domestic worker assaulted by gang

Three men attacked a domestic worker in a Pinetown home yesterday.

A DOMESTIC worker was assaulted during a home invasion in Highland Hills in yesterday morning (Sunday).

Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, said a gang of three men had derailed the driveway gate of a property in Seaforth Road and held up the domestic worker at knife-point.

“They assaulted her and tied her up before forcing her into the main house through the kitchen door and leaving her in a bedroom. The gang then went to a cottage on the property and stole an iPad, a cellphone, a laptop, a television and a bedsheet, probably to use to hide the goods, before they fled the scene,” Jackson said.

Pinetown SAPS members attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson advised residents to regularly remind domestic workers to be security-conscious in the home and to consider sending staff for safety training.

“It is easy to become complacent about security, which is why it’s important to remind staff to always keep security gates locked during the day and to be vigilant when arriving and leaving work,” he said. “Remind domestic workers not to let anyone onto the property unless they have been properly identified and you have advised them ahead of time that you are expecting a contractor to work at the property,” he said.
