Westville couple tied up during robbery

The victim's car was recovered half an hour later, abandoned in KwaDabeka.

THREE armed men wearing masks and gloves broke into a Westville house on Tuesday morning.

According to Westville SAPS communications officer, Cpt Elizabeth Squires, the complainant was awoken by his barking dogs at 4am.

”He went up to check and was confronted by two men already breaking open the gate with a crowbar. The victim ran back to his bedroom to take cover and protect his family and found his wife being held up by gunpoint by a third man who pointed a gun at her through the open window.”

Squires said all the men gained entry to the house, they pushed the husband and wife onto the bed and tied them up with a belt. “They demanded the safe keys and threatened to kill the family if the keys were not handed over.” Three guns were taken from the safe and the cupboards were ransacked.

They also stole an iPad, iPod, jewellery and other items and fled with the victim’s black VW Polo. The complainant managed to activate the panic alarm and SAPS and Chubb were on scene within minutes.

“The Polo was recovered abandoned in KwaDabeka half an hour later,” added Squires.

No arrests have been made at this stage and the case is being investigated by the Pinetown Trio Task Team.
