UPDATE: Tremor rocks Durban

While reports over the weekend said the the tremor measured a magnitude of 3.8, the latest reports have suggested otherwise.

THE tremor felt on Saturday, 6 February morning saw thousands of shaken Durbanites turn to social media to share their experiences with family and friends hours after the quake hit.

While reports over the weekend said the the tremor measured a magnitude of 3.8, the latest reports have suggested otherwise. The tremor actually measured 3.7 and was at a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was just north-west of Inanda Dam.

According to the project manager at the Council for Geoscience, Michelle Grobbelaar, this was a ‘natural event’ caused by stress built up within the the earth’s crust, which was released from a weakness in the crust. Medics and authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or damage reported due to the tremor.
