Eight injured in freak accidents

Emergency services responded to two incidents in the Highway area since yesterday.

SEVEN people were injured this morning (Wednesday, 27 January) after a bakkie rolled multiple times off Twins Road in Waterfall near Hillcrest.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman, paramedics along with other services arrived on the scene and found the bakkie lying on its side in a ditch outside a residence.

“Seven people suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and then taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Mariannhill. The exact cause of the incident is being investigated by local authorities,” added Meiring.

In a another incident, paramedics responded to a different kind of accident in the Assagay area on Tuesday, 26 January around 1.56pm.

According to Chris Botha, spokesman for Netcare 911, reports revealed that the two farm workers were walking along Lello Road in Assagay when a tractor that was parked at the side of the road started to run away. The women did not notice it until the tractor hit them. One woman fell clear of the tractor but the other fell into the tractor’s path and the wheels went over her.

“One women suffered serious injuries while the other escaped with minor bruises. After medics treated the injured at the scene they were transported to a hospital in Chatsworth,” said Botha.
