One dead in Mariannhill crash

The other driver suffered serious injuries.

ONE person died and another was seriously injured after a head-on collision on the N3 north-bound before Richmond Road just after 4pm on Tuesday, 19 January.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care, it is believed that a vehicle travelling on the south-bound carriageway somehow ended up on the north-bound carriageway and collided head-on with a vehicle before colliding with a third vehicle.

“One driver passed away before paramedics arrived – he was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by the Durban Fire Department. The other driver suffered serious injuries and was stabilised by paramedics before being taken to a nearby hospital,” said Jamieson.

SAPS were on scene and will be investigating the collision.
