Crime prevention tips for motorists

Beware of street beggars at robots and traffic jams - Pinetown SAPS's W/O Muzi Maphumulo.

THE Pinetown SAPS Crime Prevention Unit has issued tips to warn motorists when driving on Pinetown roads.

1. Motorists should do away with driving and chatting on the cellphone, because the practice takes attention off the road and many accidents take place as a result.

2. The vehicle’s windows should be closed and doors locked at junctions or in traffic jams.

3. Beggars are often criminals looking for opportunities to commit crime.

4. Car remote jamming is still prevalent – people are advised to physically check vehicle doors to see if they are locked.

“Incidents of house-breaking are starting all over again. The community should report any suspicious vehicles or people in their neighbourhood,” said Pinetown SAPS’s W/O Muzi Maphumulo.

“Community and police partnership is paramount for crime prevention and by coming together, we shall be able to conquer the crime battle.”

W/O Maphumulo also said, “People should come on board in the prevention of crime by joining their neighbourhood crime watch structures, street watches, ward safety watches, street patrols and all other crime prevention structures.”

Crime should be reported to 10111 or 112 from cellphones, or 031 325 5080/1/2/3 to the Pinetown charge office.
