Man caught with unlicensed firearm and live ammo

The man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Monday, 18 January.

A 29-YEAR-old man was arrested by Hillcrest police for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition on Friday, 15 January.

According to Cst Ndumiso Manqele, communications officer for the SAPS, police officers received information from a member of the Crime Intelligence Unit about a man who was believed to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“Officers then proceeded to the address at KwaNyuswa Reserve – they knocked on the door. The members searched the occupant and they recovered a 9mm Norinco with six live rounds. The man was not able to produce his licence and was then arrested,” said Manqele.

He was charged for being in possession of unlicensed firearm and live rounds and appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 January.

The acting station commander commended the good work done by the officers.
