Give a gift that could save a life

"This book is for every motorist, whether they drive a two wheeler, an 18 wheeler or anything in between."

INCHANGA resident, Louise Ford as written a book that not only makes an ideal Christmas gift but could save lives.

Her book, Don’t Die on the Road, is a comprehensive motoring manual for all motorists that incorporates defensive driving, handling many emergency situations, skid control, anti-hijacking measures, general motoring safety and driving for economy.

“This book is for every motorist, whether they drive a two wheeler, an 18 wheeler or anything in between. Whether they are new drivers or old hands, everyone can benefit from it.”

Having owned the Advanced Driving Academy in Pinetown for many years and taught many courses to company executives, Ford decided to use her motoring knowledge and expertise to reach a further reaching audience by writing a book.

She holds four Advanced Motoring certificates, more than 50 years of driving experience, plus over a decade of experience in training others to advanced level. In addition, she has done more than 20 years of research.

“There are a lot of things that people don’t think about when they are driving, this is a book that everybody can benefit from, not just learner drivers.”

Before running her driving school, Ford was a police officer for 18.5 years in Rhodesia, four of which were spent in the road traffic accident department, plus a further two years on the traffic law enforcement section.

Having attended numerous accident scenes and investigated the causes of the accidents, she saw first hand how easily an accident could occur and how horrific the results can be.

She points out drunk driving and speeding are two of the main causes for accidents occurring on our roads.

“South Africa has the worst accident record. England has ten times the number of cars on the road, but four times as many people die on our roads than on their roads every year. When you are speeding everything happens so much faster so you have less time to react.”

Her book has received favourable reports from the AA and the Road Traffic Inspectorate whose endorsement appears on the back cover of the book. The review from the director of the RTI states, “This manuel sets out to teach survival driving and should be of considerable benefit to drivers of all ages.”

The book is R190, excluding postage and packaging and can be purchased by contacting Louise on 073 582 5256 or lhford@mweb.co.za. A discount will be given for orders of two or more. The book can also be purchased online at Amazon and Barnes and Noble but at a higher price.
