Happy ending for abandoned baby

The baby was rescued by paramedics and Westville police last year.

THERE was a happy ending for an abandoned baby boy as a year later, he has been adopted by a family.

In November 2014, the newborn baby was found by Michael Mngwevu of Howard Electrical, who was contracted to clear trees away from overhead lines on Cliff Road, Westville when he noticed the baby lying amongst the leaves between Cliff Road and the M13.

Cst Wynand Laatz and Sgt Stephen Clark from Westville SAPS attended to the baby, who still had his umbilical cord attached. Cst Laatz, a trained paramedic, helped clean him up and applied gentle stimulus until an ambulance arrived.

The baby was hospitalised for a while at a few months old but recovered and has been cared for by a foster home until now.

“He has been adopted by a wonderful family who will take him home and give him a new life with his older brothers and sisters. This little man is a born survivor. He was meant to survive and we are very happy to have been a part of it,” said Sgt Clark, Westville SAPS communications officer.
