A DURBAN businessman and cage fighter (34) who was arrested on Monday, 26 October along with two middlemen, aged 34 and 33, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 November, where their bail application case was postponed.
The three men were denied bail on Thursday, 29 October and remanded into the Durban North police cells. It has been postponed twice, today to Thursday, 12 November and Friday, 13 November.
The three men from Bluff allegedly planned to murder Grant Jones (who had previously been incorrectly named as Grant Williams) on Monday, 26 October in Kloof.
It is alleged that the businessman ‘hired’ undercover ‘hitmen‘ for the staged assassination.
According to Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, Hawks spokesman, “The three suspects are facing charges ranging from conspiracy to commit murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and police equipment.”
The three men are being represented by lawyers, Jacqes Botha and Carl van der Merwe.
Botha accused the media of sensationalising the matter as he opposed the request by the media to take photographs of the accused on the grounds of privacy.
When the accused took the stand, they seemed like a ‘tough’ bunch with very strong physiques.
The accused were remanded into the Durban North police cells until their next court date.
