Hijacking in Hillary

The robbers were later caught for drunk driving and it was discovered that they were actually carrying a toy gun.

A MAN was held at gunpoint just as he and his accomplices were leaving a sports club in Stella Road in the early hours of Saturday, 17 October.

The driver was reversing to make his way out of the property when he was confronted by a man armed with a firearm, who instructed him to jump out of the car, in which there were three other passengers.

The armed man then jumped into the car, which was still idling, and was joined by another man, who came from the Hillary Park direction, and drove off with the car, leaving the driver and his passengers stranded. Manager at the sports club, Lorein Vosloo, said that she suspected that the armed man and his partner came from a shebeen operating across the road from their sports club.

“The robbers were later caught for drunk driving and it was discovered that they were actually carrying a toy gun. The driver got his car back later in the day,” she said. No injuries were reported, however the driver is said to be shaken by the experience. The Bellair SAPS said the car was recovered in Stanger and the two suspects were arrested and detained.
